I hope that this introduction gives you an insight into Merton House which is a truly independent, co-educational preparatory school for children from two and a half to eleven years of age. The school was originally founded in 1950, and today it is located in an elegant period building close to the heart of the City of Chester.
The school has a reputation for excellent academic results, exceptional quality of pastoral care and for being a real ‘family’ school. Our parents are very involved in the life of the school working with us so that we achieve the very best for our children. At Merton House every child is important and we appreciate your children for their individual qualities.
We aim to create an environment where all our children feel happy, secure and valued. We motivate, encourage and guide each boy and girl to make the most of his or her abilities. And to become more involved in thinking about and identifying their own learning needs.
The small class sizes enable our professional staff to closely monitor both the academic and social development of all our children, ensuring that they are encouraged to use their initiative and take responsibility for themselves and for others and thereby develop a high level of confidence.
Merton House recognises the varied needs of our families and provides childcare on every school day from 8.00am in our ‘Early Birds’ programme together with a full range of high quality extra curricular activities from 3.30pm-5.00pm included in our published fees. Optional childcare is also available every day from 5.00pm-6.00pm.
I do hope that you would like to visit us and see Merton House at work and at play.
