    Welcome to Merton House

I hope that this introduction gives you an insight into Merton House which is a truly independent, co-educational preparatory school for children from three to eleven years of age. This private school was originally founded in 1950, and is today located in an elegant period building close to the heart of the City of Chester.

The school has a reputation for excellent academic results, exceptional quality of pastoral care and for being a real ‘family’ school. Our parents are very involved in the life of the school working with us so that we achieve the very best for our children. At Merton House every child is important and we appreciate your children for their individual qualities.  We are flexible in our approach and work with our parents in everything we do.  We encourage our children to be caring, kind and compassionate people who consider the needs of others.

We aim to create an environment where all our children feel happy, secure and valued. We motivate, encourage and guide each girl and boy to make the most of their abilities, and to become more involved in thinking about and identifying their own learning needs.

The small class sizes enable our professional staff to closely monitor both the academic and social development of all our children, ensuring that they are encouraged to use their initiative and take responsibility for themselves and for others and thereby develop a high level of confidence and scholarship.

Merton House recognises the varied needs of our families and provides 'wrap around' childcare on every school day from 8.00am in our ‘Early Birds’ programme together with a full range of high quality extra curricular activities from 3.30pm-5.00pm included in our published fees. Optional childcare is also available every day from 5.00pm-6.00pm.

Our youthful, vibrant and energetic staff are pleased to announce that Merton House School is now 100% carbon neutral, always in the forefront of contemporary independent education.

I do hope that you would like to visit us and see Merton House at work and at play.   Please contact Mrs Kelly our school secretary to book your visit.  Merton House has applied for 'Free School' status with effect from September 2011.  If successful our school will not be charging fees from that date.  For further information on 'Free Schools' please look at the New Schools Network website at:  newschoolsnetwork.org   Rigorous admission criteria, not yet agreed, will be applied from September 2011.  Therefore we will not be accepting applications for places for September 2011 after 6th september 2010 until the new admission criteria are in place.  If you are seeking admission from September 2011 we will add your name to the current waiting list.
