Children are placed under the pastoral care of a form teacher, discipline is fair but firm and our open door policy ensures parents are able to communicate daily any concerns or comments. Parents are informed about academic and social progress with regular dialogue and written reports. Our small class sizes, which do not exceed 20, ensure all children receive individual attention.
From the moment the children join the school they are allocated to one of the four pastoral houses. Emphasis is placed on the positive with daily assemblies highlighting achievements in and out of school. The School Council ensures that children throughout the school have a ‘voice’ and our PSHE programme ensures that understanding our needs and the needs of others is integral to the life of the school.
During their time at Merton House children will take on increasingly responsibilities and may become, a librarian, prefect, a sports captain, head of house or even Head Boy or Girl. The contribution of these children is invaluable in fostering the welfare of the others and ensures that our philosophy of developing concern for others is nurtured throughout the school.
